“STEP BACK IN TIME”

The 19th century mining boom turned Virginia City into the most important settlement between Denver and San Francisco; and grubby prospectors into instant millionaires. They built mansions, imported furniture and fashions from Europe and the Orient, and helped finance the Civil War... and then went on to build empires around the world.
At the peak of its glory, Virginia City was a boisterous town. There was gold in every hill and millions of dollars were being made. Men came from everywhere. The spirits of these Comstock characters still inhabit the places they built, and 150 years later romance still thrives in the wondrous place in the shadow of Sun Mountain.

Last weekend the girls and I went on a road trip down the loneliest highway in America aka U.S. Route 6 via Hwy 50. What a beautiful drive it is and mountainous. I thought it being a desert and all that the drive would be boring and flat, needless to say extremely ugly, but to quite the contrary. If you ever have the need to take a trip to Reno, I highly advise not taking the interstate, but instead the scenic-by-way, it is definitely worth it! Jeslyn’s dad lives out in Fernley and works in Reno. She was missing him so badly that I decided to take her out to see him. What a great time we had. We arrived on Friday late, and all went to bed. Saturday we all ventured up to the historic town of Virginia City, what a beautiful place, I would so love to live there someday! We strolled along authentic board sidewalks, viewed historic churches, scores of 19th century homes, public buildings and quaint cemeteries. We also visited Old West saloons, shops, museums and restaurants for free. We even took the girls to one of those old-time photo shops, the picture turned out perfectly. We ended the evening with dinner at the Silverado Restaurant, enjoying the company of Colby’s boss and a few other employees. Jauncee kept our end of the table rather entertained. She is too funny and not shy at all. Sunday, we hung out and relaxed. Later that evening we all went to Jimmy’s (Colby’s boss) for dinner. It was so delicious! Then we all got our game on and played the Wii. We stopped at a new Wal-mart on our way back to Colby’s trailer – It was huge, probably by far the biggest Wal-mart I have ever been too. The girls got a few movies to keep them entertained and I was looking for a prepaid minute card for internet access but apparently there is no such thing. After Wal-mart we watched the movie My Little Princess which was awesome and then we all retired to bed. Monday we woke up, packed our stuff and headed home. The drive was treacherous with the weather being very winter like, but we made it home safe! All in all it was a great weekend, well worth the 16 hour drive. Thanks Colby for being such a great host, we can’t wait to come again. You better start planning something fun for us all to do!

Tranquility, or not!

Things have been rather quiet around our house the past few weeks. I am not sure if this is a good thing or a bad, but we will gladly take it.

A few photos of what my two little darlings have been up to.

I JUST LOVE BEING A MOM, especially to these two beautiful girls!
