Bulls In Bancroft Production Sale

A good sale is not really a celebration; it’s more a sense of relief.

Our family goes through a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to raise a crop of bulls every year that will meet the demands of progressive cattlemen.

At this time of year, most ranchers around here have bulls on the brain.  We are hoping that they will include us in their bull buying options. Our entire livelihood and future hinges on 1 day. I can’t even begin to express in words all of the emotion built up on sale day. It is overwhelming and very hard to document…3 months later.
Before the auction ever starts we tend to get a good feel of the crowd and of the actual buyers present. This year we fed around 200 people. Last year we fed 350.  It was a bitter cold day, and I think the casual on-lookers all stayed home.
Over-all the sale was a success! The top end sold better than ever. We did run out of buyers towards the end but we feel good about our efforts and our offering was the most consistent to date. It was also our first year without any consignors. Dirk and I had to keep pinching ourselves to see if it was all real. The preparation was all very easy and we didn’t have any moaning and groaning to speak of. We took notes and will make adjustments where necessary.
