The CRASH!

It was a Saturday evening and the girls and I thought we would get out and go for a walk/bike ride. I pushed Clay in the stroller and the girls both rode their bikes. We walked a little over a mile and then turned around. Jeslyn thought it would be fun to race Jauncee home, against my wishes. There was a hill close to where we turned around and Jauncee got going too fast on her little bike the chain came off and CRASH, Jauncee face planted right into the pavement. I was terrified, I started running to her as she was running to me screaming. As she started getting close I could tell she was bleeding from her nose and her mouth I didn’t realize how bad it was until she got right up to me. Her lip was already swollen and the size of a golf ball, 3 of her top teeth were jammed up into her gums and were lying parallel to the roof of her mouth. A tooth on the bottom was piercing through her bottom lip. Jauncee started to go into shock, I wasn’t sure what to so we were still about a mile from home. I tried calling Dirk but he didn’t answer so I tried his mother but she didn’t answer either so while pushing the stroller I carried her approximately a quarter of a mile where I finally tried to call Annette one more time, this time she answered. Annette and Terry came in the pickup truck to get us, I was relieved. Once we got back to their house Annette who is a retired nurse started cleaning Jauncee up and putting ice on her lip for the swelling. A neighborhood friend stopped by their house right as we pulled into the driveway it was a blessing they were there, just weeks before this same thing happened to her grandson so she knew exactly what we needed to do. She immediately got us phone numbers to dentists in the area. I started calling uncertain of getting a hold of any of them it being a Saturday evening and all. I left several messages and within 20 minutes one of the dentists called me back. After explaining the situation he wanted to see her immediately. Jauncee hates needles so bad I wasn’t sure how she was going to get along but she did really well and was super tough. They had to pull one of her top teeth, it was jammed up so far into the gum that he was certain it was dead. The two font teeth he pulled out of the gums and set back into place with a splint which she had to wear for 10 days in hopes of saving them. We have since been back two different times, the splint has been removed but the 2 teeth we tried to save didn’t make it, they are dead and are graying really fast. On the Brightside they are only her baby teeth and will soon be replaced. I also no longer have a thumb sucker!

These pictures were taken 24 hours after it happened. Jauncee wouldn’t let me take any pictures she was horrified with how she looked and kept asking for reassurance that she wasn’t going to die and that she would soon look normal again. Poor little thing, I felt so bad for her. I think it hurt me worse than her! Glad to report she is doing better and is healing super fast!

These 2 were taken with my phone.
