Camping - Momma's Birthday!

Camping is one of my favorite things to do!
What better way to spend your birthday than doing something that you love, with the ones you love the most?
It would probably be considered the shortest camping trip ever...but it definitely wasn't short on fun!

We aren't too big on KOA's or campgrounds, instead we ventured up the mountain right here behind our house, making our own trail. Once we found "the spot" we started setting up camp.

We were a little worried about building a fire, but did so cautiously. Then we roasted hot dogs.

I even got to enjoy some birthday cake...homemade german chocolate! (Courtesy of Dirks, mom Annette.) It was fabulicious!

After their rendition of "Happy Birthday", Clay and I blew out the candles. I think he really enjoyed this part.

But maybe the cake a little more!

And no camping trip is complete without smores.

We purchased a tent earlier in the year for outings such as these. The tent claims it is a 3 room, 9 person tent, which to our surprise barely fit our family of 5. We were all little snug to say the least. I think I hardly slept a wink.

Rise and Shine, said the morning sun!

Another thing to remember...finding some morning shade to pitch the tent!

The best part of the camping trip had to be the dutch-oven breakfast that Dirk made for us.

And his little helper too.

Even though it was short and sweet, I loved being all together as a family.
Best birthday ever!
